Campuestohan’s Highland Wonderland
Situated in the highlands of Mt. Makawili, 800 meters above ground, is the Campuestohan Highland Resort, dubbed as a “place like no other”. True to their tagline, there is no place like this in the entire country. This is only one of the reasons why this site is visited both by locals and tourists alike and is among the Top 6 tourist destinations in the country.
After almost 45-minute travel from Bacolod, the flock finally reached the site. It’s been drizzling when we arrived. We traveled early and because it’s weekdays there are fewer visitors. Its high elevation not only gives the site a cooler climate but also offers a perfect view of the provincial lowlands.
Not minding the water’s coldness, we immediately immersed ourselves to the swimming pool. As you bath, clouds are touching your skin that makes you shiver in cold. The wave pool is opened three times during weekdays and five times on weekends. You will find yourself more relaxed while swimming especially with the incomparable panoramic scenery that surrounds it. There are also kiddie pools that will surely be enjoyed by kids, and there is also a bubble blast that will add enjoyment to the children and to the young at heart.
The resort is a brainchild of the couple businessmen Ricardo “Cano” Tan and Nita Tan. They bought a 5-hectare land to develop a ranch and retirement home. It’s not long before they saw the place as a potential tourist spot, so they redeveloped the place as a resort. Until recently parts of the site are still being developed: for instance, one section seems being developed into a dinosaur-themed park.
Surely, both young and old will enjoy this place. There are statues of favorite superheroes like The Hulk, Spidey, Batman, Superman and others (DC and Marvel live in peace here). There are also figures of popular celebrities like Elvis and Michael Jackson. But perhaps one of the most prominent features is the King Kong statue, the largest gorilla statue in the country, complete with props of crashed helicopters.
Accommodations are also available for those wishing to stay overnight or to simply relax or find a private space. You can choose what type of accommodation you want to avail – such as Bonita Hut, Log Cabin Rooms, Teepee Hut (or wigwam) and King Kong rooms, that can accommodate from 3 to 6 people.
If you want to dare go on an outdoor adventure ride, you can ride in a 340-meter zip line, or to their featured Hamster Wheel. You can also try horseback riding, rope course, or ride on a sky bicycle.
The activities you can do here are virtually endless: swim in the pool, go for an adventurous ride, relax or unwind, or simply walk along the garden while mesmerizing on the breathtaking beauty of the scenery. Campuestohan has a lot to offer. If you live in Bacolod and are planning a getaway for your family or friends – this is a perfect place to enjoy.
